| High-Lead (Pb) |
Sources include lead based paints, ceramic glazes, lead crystal dishes
and glassware, leaded gasoline, tobacco, lead-acid batteries used in cars,
liver, water, some domestic and imported wines, canned fruit (whereby the
lead from lead-soldered cans leaches out and is absorbed by fruits), garden
vegetables (if grown in lead contaminated soils), bone meal, insecticides,
vinyl mini-blinds, porcelain glazed sinks and baths. lead piping (used
in most homes built before 1930) and even copper pipes (in newer homes
assembled with lead solder which is 50% lead). A significant amount of
lead from solder can leach into the water supply, especially within the
first few years of a homefs installation. That is why the use of lead
solder was banned in 1986. An estimated 90% of the lead stored in the motherfs
body is free to cross the placenta to the fetus. Children born to women
who have toxic lead levels generally suffer from growth retardation and
nervous system disorders. Even low level lead exposure may be associated
with impaired intellectual development and behavioral problems. |

Children who crave non-food items (pica) are very susceptible to lead poisoning (plumbism). According to Wallach, infants and children with pica will exhibit such cravings by chewing on their toys, cribs, window sills, furniture or crave paint, sand, and dirt. A chip of paint the size of a penny can contain as much as 50 to 100 ug of lead. Consuming this amount over three months will result in lead poisoning.
Symptoms of lead poisoning include vomiting, weight loss, irritability, muscular weakness, headache, abdominal pain, insomnia and anorexia. More severe cases involving blood levels of lead exceeding 80 ug/dl show symptoms of anemia, kidney damage, (Fanconi syndrome-increased urinary loss of amino acids, glucose, and phosphorous), peripheral neuritis, ataxia and muscle in coordination, joint pain, encephalopathy (brain damage, learning disabilities, etc.) and eventual death.
It is not unusual for as much as 25% of Pb poisoned individuals to have residual IQ loss, coordination loss, hyperactivity, learning disabilities and impulsiveness. Childrenfs symptoms are often more severe than adults. People with calcium deficiencies are more susceptible to lead toxicity. |

IBC Labs, Vanguard Scientific, Inc., Advanced Food Micro, Inc., and Eurofins
Scientific) for quality assurance and conformance. We recommend supplements
which exceed the standards of the United States Pharmacopoeia (USP) and
the proposed FDA Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) guidelines.

Do not obtain calcium from dolomite, bone meal, or cowfs milk, which can
contain lead.

Zinc can displace lead and lower the body burden. Low levels of zinc have
been found in people with high lead levels.
